LEAHN Co-ordinator Greg Denham traveled to Jakarta between 16th-18th March to meet new Indonesian Country Focal Point for LEAHN Police Lieutenant Colonel Lastri Riyanti and her manager Mr Anton.
Pol. Lt. Col. Lastri Riyanti will be spearheading a harm reduction awareness campaign among police in Indonesia, particularly through seeking signatories to the LEAHN Statement of Support for Harm Reduction as well as encouraging colleagues to Join the LEAH Network.
Risa Alexander (pictured far right above) from the HIV Co-operation Program for Indonesia is supporting Lastri and the LEAHN program and has experience working with police in regard to harm reduction education and training.
Greg and Lastri met with the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) to discuss the impact of drug law enforcement on HIV risk. Brig. Gen. Dr Budyo Prasetyo from BNN is very knowledgeable about harm reduction approaches and recently presented at the International Congress on AIDS in the Asia-Pacific in Thailand.
The collaboration aims to increase police support for harm reduction approaches, particularly for people who inject drugs who are highly stigmatised in Indonesia.
