Women and Harm Reduction International Network (WHRIN) launch new Facebook page

The police role in supporting harm reduction approaches are particularly pertinent to issues concerning women. In some contexts police not only fail to adequately protect women and the vulnerable – as is their mandate, but they are major sources of abuse and harrassment. LEAHN aims to reduce negative and illegal police practices towards women by supporting police training and encouraging collaborative, multi-sectoral approaches to elevate positive aspects of police culture which shape police responses.
LEAHN is a strong supporter of the Women and Harm Reduction International Network (WHRIN) and hope that you show your support too by ‘liking’ their newly launched Facebook page and following their important work.

Hi. I am the Co-Vice Chair of the Women & Harm Reduction International Network (WHRIN) & would like to welcome you to our new facebook page, which is being launched to coincide with the “Support Don’t Punish” campaign on 26th June.SUPPORT DON’T PUNISH is a global advocacy campaign to raise awareness of the harms that are being caused by the criminalisation of people who use drugs. Please visit www.supportdontpunish.org to show your support.

Indeed, as per the campaign, we agree that it is time to leave behind harmful politics, ideology and prejudice. It is time to prioritise the health and welfare of people who use drugs, and their families and communities. WHRIN wishes to raise the profile of women in this context and their needs, whilst challenging the widespread discrimination faced.

Watch this space for more women-focused postings!
