The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia was recently celebrated in Ghana (for the first time) with a call on humanity to be tolerant to people who have different views about their sexuality and gender.
The day which was marked on the 17th of May 2016 was under the theme ‘Mental Health and Wellbeing’ and brought together members of the LGBTI community was organized by a local NGO, Human Rights Advocacy Center (HRAC) and supported by Partners such as the US Embassy, Royal Netherlands Embassy, Norwegian Embassy and the Canadian High Commission among others.
In recognition of the hard work that certain individuals do to protect them, the Alliance for Equality and Diversity (AfED), an LGBTI NGO presented citations to six (6) individuals from different backgrounds in appreciation to their to the work of the LGBTI community. LEAHN Country Focal Point, Chief Superintendent Jones Blantari (pictured above), received an award for his longstanding dedication to supporting the LGBTI community. Congratulations Jones!
