Over the past years the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has worked hard to combat the opioid crisis they have been presented with.
The 2017 report called on several recommendations to be made in order to raise awareness and assist the crisis, many of which were implemented and over time have showed to be of importance.
Despite these efforts already made, according to this report an integrated approach must be taken to resolve the epidemic.
Using the four pillars approach, the VPD focuses on prevention, enforcement, harm reduction and treatment as an effective way to reduce and eventually end the epidemic. They are continuing to support this approach due to the benefits it has already shown since the last report in 2017.
The updated report highlights the importance of working with numerous authorities and communities to reduce the harm and number of deaths associated with the opioid crisis.
