The Nigeria Police Force have released guidelines for policing during the COVID-19 pandemic with the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the European Union.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) are recommended to follow a set of protocols whilst working during the pandemic to protect their own safety and the community. The booklet addresses the following subjects:
- Remain vigilant
- Take protective measures
- (Things to remember) While performing your duties
- (Things to do) When assisting with the collection and disposal of bodies of victims of COVID-19
- Limit the spread of rumours and false reporting
- Contract tracing
- Medical emergencies
- Transporting emergency supplies
- Management public order situations
- Making arrests
- Domestic violence and abuse
- Dealing with persons who inject or abuse drugs (PWID/PWUD)
- Coming off duty
These guidelines may be a useful resource for other law enforcement agencies.
